Great Aycliffe Town Council has recently completed an extension to its pre-school located within St Oswald’s Park.
The additional space provides the children with a much-needed lunch area and place to undertake activities such as yoga, as well as a dedicated room to provide one to one support to children with special educational needs.
The project was funded by the town council’s earmarked capital reserves, with a £10,000 contribution from the Great Aycliffe and Middridge Partnership via the Neighbourhood Budgets of Councillors Kate Hopper, Jim Atkinson and Eddy Adam and former Councillors John Clare, Sarah Iveson, Paul Howell, and Scott Durham, and a further £10,000 from the Durham County Council Children and Young People’s Services Minor Works Funding.
The chairman of the council’s pre-school sub-committee, Martin Ashcroft, said: “The extension has provided much-needed additional space within the pre-school adding a dedicated area for lunch times as well as more space for day-to-day learning and activities.
“The extension has been well received by both the staff and children and helps to make the facility more attractive to parents looking for full day care for their children.
“I would like to personally thank everyone involved with the project.”
GAMP co-ordinator Brian Riley added: “This is an excellent project, and the extension has provided an invaluable space for the pre-school.
“This project is a great example of key Partners in Newton Aycliffe working together to benefit our communities.”
