Berni Borsberry brings a round-up from the club’s youth and senior teams…
Burnside Women 0 v 9 Newton Aycliffe Women
With only three games left of the season the women knew that three points would secure 4th place in a very competitive Durham Womens League.
Aycliffe travelled up to Burnside looking to get the job done and take the points home. With 16 players available and the weather being extremely hot the plan was to rotate the players in and out so we could maintain 100% work rate for the full 90 minutes.
Almost 40 supporters travelled for this game, the best away support of the season.
The first goal came after 5 minutes, Morgan scoring from a Jess assist. Aycliffe were pushing for a second but found it hard to breakdown the Burnside defence and when they did the Keeper was equal to everything we could throw at her.
Then finally the breakthrough, Jess now getting on the score sheet from an Alex assist 0-2. Straight from the kick off Aycliffe won the ball back, Sophie received the ball wide right, drove into the box and finished past the on rushing keeper HT 0-3.
Second half and a talk about the importance of positions and shape during the halftime time break and the Women were raring to go again.
It wasn’t long before Aycliffe got their 4th, Carla with a perfect through ball and Jordan with the clinical finish.
We then brought Amber on and pushed her up front through the middle and that finished the game off, 4 goals in 19 minutes the pick of them coming from a perfect cross by Alex which found Amber in the middle of the box who directed her header into the top corner.
Time for one more, Jordan latched onto to a perfectly weighted pass from Alex at the edge of the box and stroked the ball into the corner of the net leaving the keeper no chance, final score 0-9.
Player of the match today goes to Amber Dobson. A tougher game next week, when the women will be supported by young girls from our Wildcats section and expecting a big crowd.
Newton Aycliffe u23’s v Felling Magpies
This was to be the final game of the season and 3pts would see Aycliffe secure the subsidiary cup. It was therefore an anti-climax when the opposition forfeited the game. However this is still another trophy for this outstanding team. This group of players will now step up a level and join the Adults Wearside League to continue their progress. However Newton Aycliffe Youth Football Club, will still have an Under 23 team next season as our current u18 side will step up to continue their development and some will have opportunities to play for the adult side in the Wearside League
Under 14 Eagles 2 v 3 Jarrow Warriors
The Eagles dominated at first and found themselves ahead, but Jarrow battled back getting an equaliser and then went ahead themselves. Some fantastic play led to The Eagles finding an equaliser but pushing for the win left us open at the back and Jarrow found a winner. Great game of football. Last game of the season next week. Goals from Adam x 2. MoM Adam
U14 Girls 8 v 2 Bishop Auckland
Two games against the same team in the space of a couple of days. The away game ending up 7-2 in favour of Aycliffe. The home game started a little scrappy but Aycliffe were trying to play their football on the ground and those gaps would open up. Some real great team play today, looking to play out and attack in numbers. Aycliffe went in 3-0 at half time and looked in control of the game. This continued to work hard for a great result
U11 Wildcats 0 v 5 Washington Wildcats
This was a game where the scoreline did not reflect the possession. We had the ball a lot of the time without putting them under a lot of pressure. Our final pass wasn’t quite there and we were stung by two fortunate goals. The second half was even again but Washington managed 3 more without reply to finish 0-5.
That was the last game of the season so some rest coming soon before starting again u12.
U13 Angels 9 v 0 Hebburn Town
This final game of the season ended with a win. The results meant that the Angels have gone the whole season without loss in either the league or cup. It’s been an amazing year winning the Premier Division and League Cup and ending the season unbeaten was the icing on the cake. 5 goals from Romilly, 2 from Faith and 1 from each of Charli & Sara. Star players: Romilly & Sara.
Under 14 Girls (Sunday) 1 v 2 Whickham Fellside
A blazing hot morning and lots of tired legs and injuries meant this was an even trickier fixture than it was always going to be. We took an early lead through Saf, but were level at half time. Whickham scored the only goal of the second half in a closely fought contest that saw both sides miss good opportunities. Star players: Lana & Megan
