Stephenson Way Community Primary School opened its doors to parents in order to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support last Friday.
The school hosted three half-hour sessions throughout the morning last Friday to allow different year groups to join their parents to enjoy a hot or cold drink and choose from a smorgasbord of cakes, the majority of which were donated by staff members or parents. Each session welcomed a fantastic number of visitors who gave generously to the charity.
The coffee morning was organised from start to finish by the Year 6 children.
In preparation for the day they came up with advertising and fund raising ideas for the event whilst on the day they helped with greeting and serving, and also ensured that everybody who came received a thank you card or a sticker.
In addition to the cake and coffee on offer, the school art club ran a stall selling items they had lovingly made for the charity.
The Year 6 children also held a competition where guests were invited to guess how many coffee beans were in the jar; where three lucky winners shared the cash prize.
However, the real winner was Macmillan with the children deciding that half the entry fee would go to the charity.
After the final coffee was poured and the final cake had been eaten, all that was left to do was to total up, which revealed that a fantastic total of £700 had been collected for the charity and confirmed that the day had been a resounding success.
