Emma Howells is smiling again, thanks to Julie’s Pets!
We told you about a heinous crime on Saturday, after a defenceless family Guinea Pig was beheaded in Newton Aycliffe.
Storm, a pet owned by 16-year-old animal care student Emma Howells, was attacked and killed by evil thugs in the family’s garden near Greenfield School.
But local shop Julie’s Pets have gifted the animal-lovers a new Guinea Pig.
And proud new owner Emma – pictured with Julie Seal (left) from Julie’s Pets and Neighbourhood Sergeant Mark Edwards – quickly named the 14-week-old ball of fluff ‘Woody’.
Mum Susan Howells told Aycliffe Today: “Just to see her when she received the Guinea Pig, she had a little cry, we were very touched and we’re very grateful, it was lovely.
“It’s going to a home of rabbits and cats, a lovely big shed and a big enclosed garden, and hopefully nothing like this will happen to us again.”

Sgt Edwards said: “It just goes to show what a strong community spirit there is here in Newton Aycliffe.
“We were all sickened by this crime, so we extend our thanks to Julie and Gary at Julie’s Pets.”

Former Woodham Community College student Emma, who is studying a national diploma in animal care at Houghall College in Durham, was left devastated by the killing.
Sgt Edwards added: “There’s a handful of offensive names I could use to describe them, they’re scum.
“We’ll work alongside the RSPCA and we’ll take every vigilant action available to deal with the people responsible.”
