Newton Aycliffe’s first team rounded off a fine Bank Holiday weekend with victories over Sedgefield and Guisborough…

Saturday 26th August – NYSD Division 2

Sedgefield 1st XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI – weather was warm and sunny. Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Sedgefield 1st XI 88 all out after 39 overs
Luke Telford 4 for 13, Michael Howe 3 for 37 and Jack Slatcher 2 for 25

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 89 for 4 after 36 overs
Adam Gittins 33 not out, Michael Howe 27 not out and Chris Palmer 14

Aycliffe’s first team put in an outstanding performance to defeat promotion favourites Sedgefield 1sts by six wickets. Michael Howe (sponsored by Yvonne and Bobby Wood) was named man of the match for an excellent all round display taking three wickets for 37 runs and then smashing an unbeaten 27 from just 22 balls in Aycliffe’s successful run chase.

Bank Holiday Monday 28th August – NYSD Division 2

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Guisborough 2nd XI – weather was warm and sunny. Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Guisborough 2nd XI 124 all out after 42.5 overs
Michael Howe for 35, Jack Slatcher 3 for 48 and James Layfield-Carroll 2 for 13

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 125 for 6 after 38.3 overs
Jack Slatcher 42, Dave Richardson 18 not out and Adam Gittins 16

Aycliffe’s first team capped a fine weeked with another victory, this time defeating Guisborough seconds at home by four wickets. Jack Slatcher (sponsored by Mr and Mrs Greaves) was the man of the match for his excellent innings of 42 from 57 balls, including eight boundaries. He also bowled well earlier in the game taking 3 for 48 from a marathon 13 over spell.
The 40 valuable points gained from their two victories over the Bank Holiday Weekend takes Aycliffe’s first team to 201 points and mid table security with only two games left to play.

Saturday 26th August – NYSD Division 4

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI v Seaton Carew 2nd XI – weather was warm and sunny. Seaton Carew won the toss and chose to bat first.

Seaton Carew 2nd XI 282 for 5 after 45 overs

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 108 all out after 35.3 overs
Tom Wickins 41, Steve Sweeney 11 and Elliot Holt 11

Aycliffe’s second team were heavily defeated by league leaders Seaton Carew by 175 runs. Opening batsman Tom Wickins was given the man of the match award after top scoring in the Aycliffe reply with 41 from 89 balls.

Bank Holiday Monday 28th August – NYSD Division 4

Saltburn 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – weather was warm and sunny. Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bat first.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 66 all out after 29.1 overs
Dylan Tribley 26 and George Slatcher 21

Saltburn 2nd XI 70 for 1 after 11.1 overs
Lucas Pilling 1 for 2

Aycliffe’s young second team lost by nine wickets away at Saltburn, but opener George Slatcher (sponsored by Mr and Mrs Greaves) was given the man of the match award for some good batting scoring 21 off 49 balls with four boundaries.
