It was the start of the league season for many of the Aycliffe Juniors teams this week with plenty of action and some great results.

The Under 8’s started life in Division 1 with a home game against Darlington FC Quakers. They started the match well and a fairly even first half saw the score being 2-1 at the break to the Quakers. The Darlington teams quality showed in the second half as they came away 9-1 winners. There were good moments from all the Aycliffe players and Alex was named as man of the match.

The Under 9’s travelled to Primrose Hill to start their league season and came across tough physical opponents. The first half saw the hosts dominate and when they changed ends Primrose Hill had a 4-2 lead. A much improved second half saw Aycliffe get a goal back but despite lots of pressure they could not find an equaliser and the game ended 4-3. In the second game things just didn’t go for Aycliffe and his one ended in a 2-0 defeat. Marley and Josh C were the games men of the match.

The Under 10’s ‘White’ are now playing in Division 1 after last seasons promotion. They were at Sunnydale against Seaton Carew Lions, who were last seasons champions. The Aycliffe team started well opening up a 2-0 lead when Jayden and Jack scored but they faded by half time when they trailed 3-2. The visitors dominated the second half to win the match 6-2. The games man of the match was Archie.

The Under 10’s ‘Black’ travelled to Billingham Juniors and came away as impressive 7-2 winners. Jake Smith scored the first two goals before Noah added the third, opening up a 3-1 half time lead. Jayden scored in the second half and man of the match Jake added three further goals, giving him five in total, to crown off a superb performance.

The Under 11’s (pictured) were also on the road to face Bedale, a superb start and two goals each from Thomas and Charlie saw them race in to a 4-0 lead. Zak got the fifth goal and the game was won at half time. After the break man of the match Thomas completed his hat trick and Alfie scored in a superb 7-3 win.

The Under 12 Russell Foster league team played away at Washington AFC Lions. They made a great start to their season with a 4-2 win, the goals came from Noah and Taylor scoring two each. Herbie was awarded the parents man of the match and Ashley won the captains award.

Middleton Rangers were the visitors to face the Under 12’s TJFA league team. The Aycliffe team put in a dominant display and they limited the visitors chances whilst creating many for themselves. All of the twelve man squad contributed to a great 6-0 win which saw goals from Evan (2), Zack (2), Lucas and Will.

The Under 13’s were also at home facing Hartlepool Pools Youth they moved in to a 2-0 lead before falling away to an 8-2 loss. Clark and Wilson were the early goal scorers but their efforts were cancelled out and it was 2-2 at half time. Pools were dominant in the second half and ran away with the win. Charlie Cayless was named as the Aycliffe man of the match.

The Under 16’s visited Whitby to play Goldsborough United. The long trip was worth it, half time came with the score at 0-0. Stoker then curled a great shot in to give Aycliffe the lead. The hosts equalised with five minutes remaining but in the last minute Stoker was fouled in the box. A penalty was awarded and scored to give Aycliffe a memorable win. Burrows and Stoker were jointly named men of the match by the opposition coaches.

The Under 23’s faced Chester le Street Waldridge Park as they began their Durham FA league season. The first half saw very few chances and the game remained scoreless. The visitors scored first in the second half before Iley scored from the penalty spot to equalise. Man of the match Sam Dawson headed the winner as the game ended 2-1 to Aycliffe.
