Saturday 18th May – NYSD Division 2
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Saltburn 2nd XI – weather was warm and sunny. Saltburn won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 242 for 9 after 50 overs
Tom Dearden 106, James Layfield-Caroll 33 not out and Luke Telford 17
Saltburn 2nd XI 245 for 8 after 47.3 overs

Aycliffe’s first team frustratingly lost a cracking game at home to Saltburn by just two wickets. Star of the show was undoubtedly 17 year old Tom Dearden (sponsored by Kevin Burton), who scored his maiden first team century. The talented youngster was eventually dismissed for a brilliant 106 off 95 balls and his memorable innings included 22 well timed boundaries. Dearden also chipped in with a wicket and a catch when the visitors batted.
After four games, the first team have 41 points and sit in 10th place in the second division table, just one place above the relegation places.

Maltby 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – weather was warm and sunny. Maltby won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 117 all out after 27.5 overs
Dan Weldon 55, Ramzan Hussain 22 and Dan Bowmer 15
Maltby 2nd XI 118 for 3 after 30.2
Tom Norman 1 for 9, Liam Scott 1 for 16 and Will Dearden 1 for 19
The club’s 2nd XI, which included two young debutants, lost by seven wickets away at Maltby 2nd XI.
Captain Dan Weldon (sponsored by Vanila Design & Print, pictured above) was the back bone of the Aycliffe innings scoring an excellent 55 off 44 balls including four boundaries and two sixes.
However special mention must go to Aycliffe’s two young debutants who both bowled really well. 13 year old Tom Norman finished with 1 for 5 and 14 year old Liam Scott took 1 for 16.
After five games, the second team have 32 points and have dropped down to 11th place in the fourth division table.
