Newton Aycliffe’s FA Cup dreams were ended with a 3-0 defeat away at Spennymoor Town in a preliminary qualifying round replay on Tuesday night.
In the original tie the Royal Blues had clawed their way back from two-goals down to lead 3-2 with a minute left only for Moors to be awarded a late penalty.
And it was the reigning FA Vase winners who emerged victorious at the second attempt to arrange a date with Evo-Stik outfit Lancaster City in the next round.
Aycliffe welcomed back Steven Salvin to the side, following his absence on Saturday, there was nothing he or any of his fellow defenders could do as they fell behind in the first minute when Kallum Griffiths fired an unstoppable 30-yard drive into the top corner.
Goalkeeper Dan Molyneux saved well from Wayne Phillips and Gavin Cogdon, while Stuart Owen went close to a leveller at the other end only to be denied by Kyle Hayes.
But Moors wrapped up the tie in the second period as Lewis Dodds fired in off the post to double Moors’ advantage just before the hour mark before Cogdon added a third soon after.
The Newtonians have a quick chance to get over the disappointment, as they turn their attentions to the FA Vase this weekend with a home tie against Guisborough.
