League campaign returns for Aycliffe after summer changes

August 5th, 2025 Martin Walker NAFC 0 comments 0

Newton Aycliffe return to league action this Saturday hoping to build on the success of last season’s campaign.

Aycliffe finished sixth in the Pitching In Northern Premier League East Division last season.

There have been significant personnel changes at Moore Lane over the summer with Brian Atkinson bringing in experienced coaches Richie Hill and Andy Coyles to assist him.

They’ve been working hard to assemble a competitive squad ahead of the new season.

Results have been promising in pre-season with wins against Step 3 clubs Stockton Town and Hebburn Town.

The final friendly saw Hebburn Town visit the Ashcourt Stadium on Friday night.

Aycliffe ran out 2-1 winners, with Jack Clarkson (pictured) scoring first for the home side with a header on 36 minutes.

Hebburn equalised on 76 minutes but it was latest signing Kieran Greenway who got the winner with just a few minutes left.

Aycliffe play away to Pontefract Collieries in the opening game of the season on Saturday, August 9.

That game will be played at Ossett United’s ground as Pontefract’s stadium is undergoing refurbishment.

The first home game of the season comes on Tuesday, August 12, when Brighouse Town will be the visitors. Kick off is 7:45pm.

That match is followed by our Emirates FA Cup preliminary round tie home to Newcastle Blue Star, which is to be played on Saturday, August 16.
