Hammond completes dream move to boyhood club

February 29th, 2016 Martin Walker Football 0 comments 0

Local legend Garf Hammond has completed a dream move by signing for boyhood club Aycliffe WMC.

Big Club boss Dave Owen finally captured the marauding full-back after months of tracking the talented 35-year-old.

Hammond put pen-to-paper on a three-year, pint-as-you-play deal after completing brief negotiations with Big Club bosses over the weekend.

“Obviously I’m delighted,” said the Peter Beardsley look-a-like.

“It has always been a childhood ambition to play for the Big Club so I’m over the moon the gaffa has signed me.”

Hammond joined the club from the Dog & Gun after several seasons in the Dog & Duck League.

And the signing was hailed as a “great day for grass roots football” by goalkeeper Steve Richardson.

“My above average headed size pal Garf has fulfilled his dream of signing for his boyhood club and pub,” said Richardson.

“Never give up hope – dreams really can come true.”

Winger Stuart Owen was equally pleased to see his long-time friend join the Big Club ranks.

A pal close to the former Aycliffe star told us: “It really means a lot to Rat Boy that Garf has finally signed for the club and he can’t wait to see what he can do.”

Joint-manager Jason Steele was unavailable for comment.
