Aycliffe Running Club round-up

Despite the inclement weather, last weekend was a very active one for the members of ARC.

The weather did, however, have an effect on the parkruns with several of them being cancelled because of slippery conditions.

Hackworth Parkrun in Shildon was one that was able to proceed and this saw Simon Matthew Turner achieve a PB in 24.51.

The remainder of the racing took place on Sunday.

Four members travelled north to Newcastle for the Heaton Harriers Memorial 10k.

This is two laps of a 5k course on the Town Moor. First home was Paul Dalton in 36.41, followed by Trish Kay in 49.02, Judith Porter in 1.01.02 (First Female 65) and Even Doe in 1.08.34.

We also had six members travel the distance to Lytham St Annes in Lancashire near Blackpool for the Windmill Remembrance 10k. This is a flat andfast course on the coastal from of Lytham, starting on the green next to the Windmill itself. Mark Bainbridge was first home for ARC in 41.41, followed by Heather Morgan 47.13, John Richardson 50.59, Ian Baronowski 56.12, Nicola Bales 59.46 and Sam Baronowski in 1.09.32.

Finally, we had a good turn out of members for the Whitby Fixture in the NYSD Cross Country League.

This took place just outside of Whitby on a course which afforded views across to the Abbey (that is once runners had scaled the hill in the back half of the course).

The ladies were first up for a distance of 5.4k followed by the mens race of 9k.

First home for the ladies was Michelle Scott in 25.50 followed by Michelle Jane 26.06, Sue Milburn 29.34, Kelly Tamar 32.19, Jane Burnside 37.23, Susan Clark 37.39 and Jan McLuckie in 45.11.

In the mens race, Trevor Dixon was first home in 36.39, followed by Richard Campbell in 40.41, Andrew Sedgewick 40.45, Peter Milburn 41.36, Lee Wren 42.28, Ryan Pearson 45.16 and John Burnside 46.08.

For anyone interested in joining the club, you can simply turn up at one of our sessions all of which start from the Oakleaf Complex in Newton Aycliffe. Monday night is beginners run at 6.30pm, Tuesday is endurance/speed session from 7pm, and Thursday is a track session and this takes place at Shildon Track.

Further details can be found on our website or facebook pages or alternatively you can message the club via facebook for more information.
