Tributes have been paid to two councillors who sadly passed away in the space of a week.

Brian Hall (above, right) was a long-serving Labour councillor and had the honour of serving a term as the town’s mayor in 2007/08.

He was the council’s Recreation Committee chairman from 2008 to 2019 and served on all the council’s other committees, sub-committees and working groups over the years, regularly contributing his knowledge and experience on a variety of issues.

A statement from Great Aycliffe Town Council said: “Brian was very well liked and respected by all of the officers at the council, and was always particularly supportive of the staff working the in the sports and golf complex whilst chairman of Recreation Committee.”

Dave Hardaker (above, left) had been a Labour town councillor since 2017 and served on all of the council’s main committees and a number of sub-committees and working groups.

He was the council’s outside body representative on the Friends of Stockton and Darlington Railway, regularly providing enthusiastic and informative reports on the activities of the group at Council Meetings.

“Dave was a dedicated councillor and well-liked by everyone at the council,” added the council’s statement.

Town clerk Daniel Austin said: “Myself and the council staff were very shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of two of our councillors in the space of a week.

“Brian and Dave were both well-liked and respected councillors and will be sadly missed.

“Our thoughts are with their families and friends at this very sad time”

Mr Hall’s funeral will be held at 10.45am on Wednesday, October 13, at St Clare’s Church. Mr Hardaker’s funeral details are yet to be confirmed.
