THE JOURNO’S PANEL

August 17th, 2012 Glen Robertson NAFC 0 comments 0

Our panel of three football writers give their predictions on Newton Aycliffe’s game this weekend…

Three points are awarded if our ‘experts’ pick the exact score, 1 point awarded if they get the result correct.

All three experts predicted victory for Allan’s men last weekend, so scored zero points for their ill picks as Aycliffe could only draw 1-1 at home to Holker Old Boys
Martin Walker – 0
Paul McGeary – 0
Glen Robertson – 0

Looking to get off the mark this week, here’s what they have to say on the visit to Marske United…

Paul McGeary
Marske away is one of my favourite fixtures, as it gives me a chance to read Moss Holtby’s brilliant matchday programme. It’s never been a happy hunting ground for us though, with only one win in four trips, that coming in the promotion season. Marske have a new management team this season, but they’ll not chance their style of play, which sees them get it from back to front as quick as possible, utilising the strengths of front pair Benn Thompson and our old foe, David Onions. Let’s hope our lads aren’t licking their FA Cup wounds coz Marske will show no empathy!
Marske United 2-2 NAFC

Glen Robertson
Last year’s trip to Marske was done in glorious sunshine. Ice creams were the order of the day – in mid October. This year’s trip to the seaside is done in August so, naturally, it’ll probably be wet and windy. On the pitch Anth Campbell scored one of the goals of the season but Aycliffe lost 3-1. This year I’ll take two scrappy tap-ins as long as Allan Oliver’s men start with a victory.
Marske United 1-2 NAFC

Martin Walker
Marske came up with us two years ago and finished 21 points behind us last season, while they won only six of their 21 home games, and while they’re far more seasoned than us in this league, I believe we have more quality in our squad that should prevail on Saturday. A good start is crucial, but for me the most important thing is that we play to the strengths within our squad. Our passing game, if carried out as it should be with the right personnel, should get the better of them, and despite our FA Cup setback, I’m predicting a bouncebackability-showing flying league start.
Marske United 0-2 NAFC
