THE ‘AYCLIFFE BLUE’ BLOG

December 12th, 2012 Martin Walker Blog 1 comments 0

Aycliffe NPT Sergeant Mark Edwards continues his regular blog on Aycliffe Today…

Hello again…

As Christmas fast approaches, what’s new in Aycliffe?

PC Kathryn Pudney is coming to the end of her initial five-week introduction to the team with a number of arrests and charges against criminals already under her belt! She joins us a ‘regular’ fixture in late January 2013.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team will be present at this Saturday’s Newton Aycliffe v Darlington 1883 game at Moore Lane Park, assisted by colleagues from HQ. Officers will be in attendance to assist the club and to assure that the event runs smoothly.

Meanwhile, here’s some recent arrests…

On Tuesday, an 18-year-old male was arrested in the early hours of the morning on suspicion of trying car doors in the Defoe Crescent area of the town. After investigation he was charged with offences of vehicle interference, stealing from vehicles, going equipped for stealing and to top it all – burglary. The male was remanded in Police custody and presented before the Magistrates.

A 34-year-old-male, of no fixed abode, was arrested in Aldi on Wednesday for shoplifting. He was later charged with that offence along with another shoplifting matter at another retail premises that came to light through investigation.

Last Thursday a knifepoint robbery occurred at a retail premises in the Byerley Road area of Shildon. Our colleagues on Shildon’s NPT assisted the Serious Crime Team with extensive enquiries and as a result, a 17-year-old male was arrested and charged with the crime. He was remanded in custody and is currently at Her Majesty’s Pleasure awaiting trial. This came about as a result of determination and commitment at progressing all avenues of enquiry in an expeditious manner and acknowledgement goes to Sgt Alex Clarke and Detective Sergeant Paul Ryans and their respective teams. I would like to reassure people that crimes of this type – whilst traumatic and distressing to those victims and witnesses caught up in them, are not regular occurrences.

That’s it for now.

Be good!

Will the shoplifter appear before he magistrates? If so can he be bailed, as he is of ‘no fixed abode? Interesting 😉
