THE ‘AYCLIFFE BLUE’ BLOG!

August 28th, 2012 Martin Walker Blog 0 comments 0

Aycliffe Neighbourhood Police Team Sergeant Mark Edwards continues his regular blog on Aycliffe Today…

Hello all and welcome to the next instalment of ‘Aycliffe Blue’.

Our media team based at HQ have been developing a Police newsletter for each area within the Durham Force area which distributes every quarter.

This is now up to Issue 3, and supplies are taken by members of the NPT to the various meetings and venues that they attend.

We also distribute the letter around various locations in the town so please keep your eye out for it.

The title isn’t original unfortunately, but for those who may wish to keep an eye out for it watch for ‘Newton Aycliffe/Shildon/Sedgefield Area Police News’.

Someone probably got a gold star for that title too! The newsletter contains snippets of information about results from the town and there are details of who your local NPT Officers are.

The team are very keen on promoting confidence in our communities and we realise that communication is key to this.

As you may already know we have delved into the realms of social media to ‘spread the word’ of what we are doing. If you’re reading this then you’ve discovered another method to our objective.

We do realise, though, that there are different groups out there, not everyone goes for the social media thing, some will attend our PACT venues, others go for the hard copy media.

We will continue to explore various avenues to reassure our communities that we do care and are working to address those issues that matter to you.

If you see one of my Officers (whether it be Pc or PCSO) out there on the street – and I realise I’m inviting comment by saying that!, then stop them for a quick chat and ask what’s going on. They will be happy to tell you.

The NPT have been busy these past few days assisting our colleagues in the Serious Crime Team investigating a burglary that occurred in the Bowes Road area in early August.

Some invaluable information came to light which gave my team some meat to chew on and as a result two arrests have been made of persons suspected to be responsible for that crime.

A 35-year-old male and a 45-year-old male have both been released on bail pending further enquiries.

I can’t go into specific details of the crime but my colleagues in Serious Crime are working hard to resolve this investigation, so wtch this space!

Two females from the Willington area were arrested yesterday on suspicion of theft of alcohol from Tesco. They were both charged and will be speaking to the magistrates soon.

Some court results…

Kelvin Welham, 29, from Newton Aycliffe was convicted of criminal damage to a car window at Rowan Place. He was conditionally discharged for 12 months, ordered to pay £75 compensation to the victim, and required to pay £85 court costs.

Zach Martin Melton, 23, from Newton Aycliffe, was convicted of driving whilst disqualified. He was committed to prison for 12 weeks which was suspended for 18 months subject to certain requirements.

I hope everyone had a great time at the Aycliffe show at the weekend.

Until next time, be good!

Mark J Edwards
Aycliffe NPT Sergeant
