Match Preview – Saturday 23rd August, 2014

CONSETT AFC versus NEWTON AYCLIFFE
Bell Vue Stadium. 3pm kick off.

Struggling Newton Aycliffe will relish an away game this weekend after a horrific start which has seen them lose on all three occasions when they have taken to their home field.

Standing in their way of defending their 100% away record (P1, W1) stands a formidable Consett side, who have recruited astutely through the summer, adding to an already strong squad capable of challenging for the title.

Ball-playing Durham City defender Dan Madden signed to strengthen the defence, while former Newtonian Josh Gray and the once revered Adam Nicholls provide pace and trickery down the flanks.

Former Poolie Michael Mackay and 45-goal striker Luke Sullivan remain in attack for the Steelmen, while Calvin Smith proves weekly that he is in the top category of midfielder in the Northern League.

Adie Webster’s side will look to bounce back from a forgetful seven days which seen them crash out of the FA Cup at the first time of asking followed by a midweek reverse to the beatable Bedlington Terriers.

Liam Clough misses out for the Newtonians as he is on holiday but despite receiving a red card in the defeat on Wednesday, Richard Langthorne proved his fitness and should keep his place in the starting XI.

Martin Young is in contention for a starting berth in his favoured midfield role while Player/Manager Webster could pick himself after notching his first goal for the club against the Terriers.
