By Martin Walker

Police are investigating after windows were broken and a burglary took place at houses in a Newton Aycliffe street within a few hours of each other.

Windows were broken at one house in Rowan Place between about 12.30pm and 1.30pm on Friday (20th July). At about 3pm another house in Rowan Place was burgled.

Three youths aged in their mid-teens were arrested on Friday on suspicion of criminal damage and have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

A 50-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, both local to the area, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and have also been bailed pending further enquiries.

Sergeant Mark Edwards said: “We can’t rule out the possibility that these incidents are linked in some way and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in Rowan Place on Friday afternoon to contact us.”

Newton Aycliffe police can be contacted on the non-emergency number 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
