Newton Aycliffe’s pre-season friendlies get under way this Saturday (July 5) as Stockton Town visit the Ashcourt Group Stadium.
It’s an early workout for the squad which began training last week ahead of the official season start on August 9.
There have been a number of departures from the end of last season including three players joining clubs at a higher level, one returning to his home area of South Yorkshire and another retiring.
Manager Brian Atkinson has, therefore, had to undertake a significant rebuilding exercise for the new season.
One exciting aspect is the return of two Aycliffe lads, Brennan Fitzpatrick and Charlie Dawson, who both made senior debuts for Aycliffe before moving to Northern League clubs to gain experience.
Also joining is Joey Hope from West Auckland and midfielder Jack Camarda from Blyth Spartans.
Pre-season friendlies begin on Saturday with Step 3 side Stockton Town the visitors.
Aycliffe then travel to Northallerton Town on Tuesday, July 8, as Aycliffe compete for the Frank Swinburne Memorial Trophy, played in honour of the club’s popular committee member.
There will be another away trip on Saturday, July 12, when Aycliffe visit Whitley Bay.
On Wednesday, July 16, Chester le Street Park View (formerly Chester le Street Town) will visit Moore Lane.
And on Tuesday, July 22, Aycliffe welcome Darlington FC to Moore Lane.
