MINUTE’S APPLAUSE FOR FRANKIE

March 22nd, 2014 Martin Walker Football, NAFC, Sport 0 comments 0

Frankie Swinburne Aycliffe crowned champions

By Martin Walker

Football players and fans will remember local legend Frank Swinburne when Newton Aycliffe play Team Northumbria today.

Frankie passed away on Sunday 24th March last year – leaving an irreplaceable void at Aycliffe and the Big Club – and Monday will mark a year since his passing.

A minute’s applause will take place before Aycliffe’s Northern League first division clash with Team Northumbria at Moore Lane Park today (3pm kick-off).

The club’s manager and Frankie’s friend Allan Oliver told Aycliffe Today: “Frankie is a massive miss around the club.

“And not just on matchdays. Any job that needed doing, he was there. He always had a smile on his face, he was always positive, and loved being at the club.

“It’s hard to believe it’s been a year already. The place misses him. He was a diamond of a man.”

Aycliffe’s game with Team North kicks off at 3pm today – admission is £6 adults, £4 concessions and Under-12s FREE.
