High-five for Aycliffe in cup rout

Brandon United 0, Newton Aycliffe 5

Newton Aycliffe won 5-0 away at second division Brandon United in the Durham Challenge Cup on Wednesday night.

Brandon had beaten first division Ryhope CW in the previous round, so a tough match was anticipated.

However, Aycliffe were on their game from the kick off, and went ahead after five minutes. Dean Thexton did well to cross the ball in to Liam Jarvie in the penalty area and he put it past Brandon keeper Simms.

Aycliffe were dominant and had several chances to increase their lead, including Kevin Carr hitting the post.

They had to wait until the 28th minute; Jarvie was tripped in the penalty box and Thexton made no mistake from the spot.

They made it three on 40 minutes. Jarvie beat a couple of defenders and buried the ball in the far corner.

Ten minutes into the second half, Aycliffe scored a fourth. Brandon were struggling to contain Jarvie and he was pushed over again in the penalty box.

Thexton scored his second from the resulting penalty kick. Aycliffe missed more chances before they got their fifth goal on 81 minutes. Ethan Wood slotted a ball through to man-of-the match Jarvie, who finished with aplomb for his hat-trick.

Aycliffe are away to Bishop Auckland on Saturday (October 26, 3pm), followed by a league cup game at home to Northallerton on Tuesday (October 29, 7.45pm).
