Hackworth parkrun celebrates its 9th birthday

March 1st, 2022 Martin Walker Sport 0 comments 0

By Paul Dalton

Hackworth parkrun will be celebrating its ninth birthday on March 12.

The free weekly run, which started back in 2013, will be hitting its 376th outing on that day and since it began it has played host to over three thousand individual runners who have between them clocked up an impressive total of 92,000km

Like all parkruns across the globe, Hackworth parkrun is a friendly event where anyone can walk, jog or run at their own pace.

It’s not a race, it’s a free weekly timed run which combines fitness and social activities. Anyone can take part and take from it what they want.

Also on this day Aycliffe Running Club will be doing a club takeover day.

This means that Members of the Club will fill all of the volunteer roles required on the day and they’ll literally be running the show.

To help celebrate our special day refreshments will be served in the Hackworth Hub.

Everyone is welcome and as well as running there’s also the opportunity to volunteer at parkrun.

To make it all work we need volunteers every week to cover such roles as Marshals, Timekeepers and Barcode Scanner. In total we’re looking for 15 volunteers each week.

If you’re interested in joining us on March 12, or any Saturday, then you can register on our Hackworth parkrun website: www.parkrun.org.uk/hackworth/

Please remember to print out your barcode and or keep a copy on your phone. Be sure to bring it with you as you won’t get your time recorded without it.
