Football is flourishing at Woodham Academy

June 13th, 2019 Martin Walker Community 0 comments 0

Woodham Academy has a rich tradition of producing footballers of the highest quality.

Previous successes include Jason Steele, Ross Turnbull, Lewis Wing, Christopher Mason and Darren Craddock, all playing professionally over the last 12 years.

Charlie Dawson is the next player aspiring to emulate this group, having recently signed a two-yea contract with Middlesbrough FC.

Charlie, like Lewis Wing, is a creative central midfielder with an eye for goal and is a key member of football academy at Woodham, delivered by Premier Player.

Football is thriving at Woodham, reflected in the start made by the school football teams.

Year 7 and 9 teams are currently unbeaten, recording wins against Durham Johnston, Ferryhill and Parkside to date.

Since the development of the football academy six years ago, Woodham Academy has seen an increase in the number of students, both male and female, taking part in competitive football.

The partnership created with Premier Player continues to go from strength to strength.

Managing Director Andrew Collett said: “We have been running the football academy at Woodham for over six years now and thoroughly enjoy working with the students.

“We find them to be very receptive to the information given. Their desire to improve is excellent and they are a real pleasure to work with.

“The Thursday night session has allowed us to work closely with the boys, but I must admit that I get a great sense of enjoyment when I see how many girls attend our Friday night session.

“This is an aspect of our provision that I see continuing to develop in the coming years.”
