The romance of the FA Cup will again descend on Moore Lane this weekend after the town’s football club chalked up their first win of the season this week.
The Newtonians enter the Emirates FA Cup at the preliminary round stage this Saturday when they welcome Newcastle Blue Star to the Ashcourt Stadium.
It’s also the first time the two sides have met in any competition.
Blue Star currently play in the Ebac Northern League Division One and have previously beaten North Shields this season in the FA Cup.
They’re currently 19th in the table after finishing fourth last season where they got to the playoff final losing to Blyth Town.
Newton Aycliffe had a good run in the FA Cup last season where they got as far the second qualifying round.
Defeating Whitley Bay and Bamber Bridge, Aycliffe eventually lost to Warrington Rylands in a replay.
Saturday’s FA Cup tie comes after Aycliffe bounced back from their opening day defeat to win at home to Brighouse Town on Tuesday night.
After going behind in the first half, second half goals by Joey Hope and Brennan Fitzpatrick bagged the three points for Brian Atkinson’s side.
That game followed Saturday’s 2-0 defeat away to Pontefract Collieries (pictured above).
Aycliffe fixtures:
Saturday August 16: Newcastle Blue Star (H) FA Cup
Tuesday August 19: Blyth Spartans (A)
Saturday August 23: Grimsby Borough (H)
Monday August 25: Bishop Auckland (A)
