AYCLIFFE ‘VIBE’ WAS PULLING POWER – HUGHES

June 8th, 2012 Martin Walker Football, NAFC, Sport 0 comments 0

By Martin Walker

One of Newton Aycliffe’s new signings says it was the “good vibe” about the club which prompted him to join.

Newtonians boss Allan Oliver completed a double signing this week, bringing Hughes and West Auckland attacking midfielder to Moore Lane Park.

And the ambitious former Whitley Bay winger has already a targeted a top-six finish in the Northern League first division next season.

In a Video Interview with Aycliffe Today, Hughes said: “It should be an exciting season ahead and I’m looking forward to it.

“I’ve played here myself with Jarrow and Birtley and they always seem to have quite a big crowd and there’s quite a good vibe about the club, it’s a good, ambitious club in the first division.

“My personal aim is to improve my goalscoring tally from last season, and as a club to finish in the top six and have a good cup run in either the Vase or FA Cup.

“I’ve played in the league a few years and I know what’s required to finish at a high level, and with the signings Allan has made, to go with the players he’s already got, I think that’s achievable.”
