Newton Aycliffe 1, Stockton Town 5

Newton Aycliffe suffered a heavy defeat at home to Stockton Town, going down 5-1.

Aycliffe – currently 12th in the Northern League first division – were hit by injuries and never really got going in this game, Stockton being on top for most of the match.

They went ahead as early as the seventh minute, when Chris Stockton found a bit of space in the penalty box and beat Barry Poskett in the home goal.

Stockton dominated the rest of the half and increased their lead when Craggs hit a free kick past Poskett.

Aycliffe started the second half well, with man-of-the match Jermaine Metz causing Stockton problems down the right flank.

However, Stockton scored a third when Nicholson headed in a free kick after 53 minutes.

Aycliffe pulled one back when Metz scored with a fantastic volley from a tight angle after 66 minutes.

They went on to have a good spell in the game, but Stockton put the game out of reach with eight minutes left, when Craggs scored from another free kick. Stockton scored a goal in injury time through Coleman to make the final score 5-1.

Aycliffe next go to Bishop Auckland on Wednesday night (7.45pm) followed by a trip to Seaham Red Star on Saturday (January 12, 3pm).
