After a better week last week it was back to races being cancelled again this week but for reasons other than the weather.

However, local Parkruns still took place as did a few races.

On Saturday at Shildon Cliff Pickering achieved a PB for that course in 32.05.

In Sedgefield, Richard MacFarlane achieved 27.37, Dave Thompson 28.35 and Marie Rudd 35.32.

Finally at Darlington Parkrun Ian Stothard achieved a PB of 33.02.

On Sunday the racing started close to home with several members taking place in the first race of the Darlington Trail Series.

This one taking place at West Park. The race was ran in the opposite direction as normal and was in windy conditions.

Dez Fielden was first home for ARC in 19.35, followed by Sue Milburn in 25.25, Melanie Rowland in 30.55, Tracey Pickering in 31.29, Craig Robinson in 31.46 and Cliff Pickering in 34.20.

Further South in Thirsk there was a good turnout from the club for Thirsk 10 miler (top picture). This is a popular race and this year had a slightly altered route from previous years and was again run in Windy conditions.

First home for ARC was Paul Dalton in 1.00.03, followed by Andy Talbot in 1.03.55 (2nd in his age cat) and also beating the clubs previous record for that distance by 14 minutes, Floyd Jones in 1.04.29, Richard Campbell in 1.05.22, Tracey Surtees in 1.06.37, Corey Horn in 1.11.04, Rob Young in 1.14.11, Angela Sutheran in 1.19.40, Trish Kay in 1.22.18, John Young in 1.30.07 and Susan Clark in 1.52.49.

The final race to report took place in Northumberland in Ovingham nr Prudhoe. This was a 20 mile race organised by Run Nation and was being used by some athletes as part of their Marathon training. However, almost all of the big Marathons have been cancelled and late in the day Run Nation also added a half marathon option.

John Surtees took part in the Half Marathon where he broke the 1 hour 20 barrier in a time of 1 hour 19.11. He was followed by Richie Johnson in 2.17.35.

In the 20-mile distance, Simon Mathew Turner was first home in 2 hour 52 mins and 27 seconds. He was followed by Julie Nisbet in 3 hours 09 minutes and 27 seconds.

For anyone interested in joining the club, you can simply turn up at one of our sessions all of which start from the Oakleaf Complex in Newton Aycliffe. Monday night is beginners run at 6.30pm, Tuesday is endurance/speed session from 7pm, and Thursday is a track session and this takes place at Shildon Track. Further details can be found on our website or facebook pages or alternatively you can message the club via facebook for more information.
