December 13th, 2019 Martin Walker Sport 0 comments 0

By Donna Campbell

This past week saw the start of the festive racing.

This began on Saturday with two of our members combining a weekend away in York with racing. Jayne Rudd and Marie Rudd both completed the York Yuletide five-mile race which is a two lap race across fields and through the woods alongside the River Ouse. Marie completed this in 1.03.25 and Jayne in 1.03.26.

On Sunday another member took part in in Santa 5k trail organised by Muddy Roads. David Stothard completed this in 27.16.

Finally, on Sunday we had a small turn out for the NYSD cross country fixture at Acklam which took place in difficult conditions due to mud and wind.

In the ladies’ race (approx. 3.5 miles) Michelle Jane was first home in 26.29, followed by Jane Burnside in 38.32, Susan Clark in 41.17 and Jan McLuckie in 45.30. Kevin Greenall also took place in this race as do Male over 65, completing this in 33.40.

In the men’s race (approx. 10k) Mark Wade was first home in 44.00, followed by Richard Campbell 46.28, Peter Milburn 47.25 and Peter Smith in 53.07.

Youth Section

This week saw only one of our members taking part in the Cross Country at Acklam with some having miss it through illness. Felicity Lineton ran the 1.25 miles completing this in 8.58.

For anyone interested in joining the club, you can simply turn up at one of our sessions all of which start from the Oakleaf Complex in Newton Aycliffe. Monday night is beginners run at 6.30pm, Tuesday is endurance/speed session from 7pm, and Thursday is a track session and this takes place at Shildon Track.

Further details can be found on our website or facebook pages or alternatively you can message the club via facebook for more information.
