Aycliffe maintain play-off push with back-to-back wins

Newton Aycliffe have maintained their play-off push with seven points from three games, scoring 11 goals along the way.

New signing Aaron Brown looks to have helped bolster the team’s defensive prowess as they recorded a clean sheet in two of the three games as well.

January 25: Brighouse Town 2, Newton Aycliffe 2

Newton Aycliffe hadn’t played a game in 21 days when they made the trip to Brighouse. It perhaps shown when Brighouse’s Rhys Platter opened the scoring within 18 minutes when took advantage of sluggish Aycliffe defending.

Brighouse’s lead didn’t last the half though as Liam Adamson scored with a curling effort to make it 1-1.

Aycliffe briefly had a lead in the second half when Jake Petitjean converted from the spot in the 68th minute. Rhys Platter once again scored for the home side however leaving the score at 2-2.

January 28: Ashington AFC 0, Newton Aycliffe 4

The first half of this contest flattered to deceive, as it finished 0-0 with both sides not having too much in the way of chances.

The second half saw Aycliffe come alive and sweep aside the Colliers. Skipper Ethan Wood broke the deadlock with a brilliant strike from outside a crowded box (we won’t mention his celebration however!).

Jake Petitjean once again found the net in the 64th minute and just a few minutes later in the 69th Liam Jarvie also obtained another for his growing goal tally too.

To cap off a brilliant away performance Dane Eltringham scored his first goal for Aycliffe with a brilliant strike.

February 1: Newton Aycliffe 5, Bridlington Town 0

Carrying on their ruthless goal scoring form from Tuesday night’s Ashington game Aycliffe tore apart another team, this time Bridlington Town.

It was arguably over from the first half as Liam Jarvie, Liam Adamson and Jack Clarkson had made it 3-0 before half time.

The second half saw Jarvie and Adamson make it a brace. A much-deserved rout by Aycliffe who are now firmly on a play-off push.

The campaign continues with a home game against Cleethorpes Town on Tuesday night (February 4) followed by a trip to Consett on Saturday.
