Saturday 17th August – NYSD Division 2
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Rockliffe Park 1st XI – weather was warm and overcast. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Rockliffe Park 1st XI 302 for 5 declared after 44 overs
Luke Telford 2 for 81, Tom Dearden 1 for 26 and Will Dearden 1 for 64
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 94 for 4 after 21 overs
Sam Telford 30, Dan Weldon 23 and Tom Dearden 10
The first team were well beaten by 206 runs at home to promotion outsiders Rockliffe Park 1st XI.
Sam Telford was the pick of the batsmen when he top scored with an aggressive 30 off 17 balls and his innings included two boundaries and two sixes.
Luke Telford (pictured above) led the bowling attacking finishing with 2 for 81 from his ten overs.
Sunday 18th August – NYSD Division 2
Stockton 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI – weather was warm and sunny. won the toss and chose to bat first.
Stockton 2nd XI 168 all out after 48.4 overs
Luke Telford 6 for 31, James Layfield-Carroll 2 for 50 and Tom Dearden 1 for 26
Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 164 all out after 41.4 overs
Tom Dearden 59, Chris Palmer 23 and Luke Telford 22
The first team battled hard but were still beaten in a dramatic finale by just four runs away at fellow relegation candidates Stockton 2nd XI.
Luke Telford (sponsored by JR Smith Electrical) had an excellent all round game for Aycliffe, firstly taking six wickets for 31 runs from his 15 overs, which was his best bowling performance of the season and he then followed up with 22 runs from 36 balls when his side replied.
Aycliffe were struggling at 144 for 9, still 25 runs short of victory when Ben Howard joined Jai Sander at the wicket and the 10th wicket pair deserve immense credit for a battling display as they put on 21 runs together, but they ultimately fell just four runs short of victory when Howard was adjudged LBW with the Aycliffe score on 164.
With only four games left to play, the two defeats at the weekend leave Aycliffe in serious danger of being relegated after 11 seasons in the NYSD 2nd division. After 18 games, the first team have 151 points and remain second bottom of the NYSD 2nd division table, 26 points adrift of safety behind 3rd from bottom Stockton, who have played a game less.

Wolviston 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – weather was warm and overcast. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bat first.
Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 69 all out after 21 overs
Freddie Lawler 18 not out, Matty French 15 and Will Moffatt 8.
Wolviston 2nd XI 70 for 3 after 15.4 overs
Will Moffatt 2 for 5 and Matty Greaves 1 for 16
Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI lost by seven wickets away at Wolviston 2nd XI in the NYSD 4th division.
Thirteen-year-old Freddie Lawler (sponsored by Athena Gymnastics Academy) top scored for the 2nd team with an excellent senior career best score of 18 not out off 34 balls.
Fourteen-year-old Will Moffatt also had a good game for Aycliffe taking two wickets for just five runs and scoring eight runs earlier in the game when Aycliffe batted.
After 19 games, the second team have 161 points and drop down a place to 9th in the fourth division table.
