Lee Weldon’s weekly round-up from the wicket…

Saturday 3rd August – NYSD Division 2

Saltburn 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI – weather was mild with sunny periods. Saltburn won the toss and chose to bat first.

Saltburn 2nd XI 263 for 5 after 50 overs
James Layfield-Carroll 4 for 45 Luke Telford 1 for 67

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 153 all out after 39.2 overs
Tom Dearden 56, Chris Palmer 52 and Joe Teasdale 12

The first team were well beaten by 110 runs away at Saltburn 2nd XI.
Captain James Layfield-Carroll deserves credit for bowling his full quota of overs on such a hot day with his 15 overs yielding the impressive figures of 4 for 45.
Seventeen-year-old Tom Dearden (sponsored by Kevin Burton) and Chris Palmer both batted well with each player scoring half centuries in the ultimately unsuccessful Aycliffe reply.
After 15 games, the first team have just 119 points and now sit at the bottom of the NYSD 2nd division table, 20 points adrift of safety and having played a game more than the team in 10th place.

Saturday 3rd August – NYSD Division 4

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI v Maltby 2nd XI – weather was mild with sunny periods. Maltby won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 180 all out after 37.2 overs
Patrick Howe 92 not out, Trent Telford 37 and Matty French 23

Maltby 2nd XI 181 for 3 after 26.5 overs
Leon Patel 2 for 38 and Dan Weldon 1 for 28

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI lost by seven wickets at home to Maltby 2nd XI in an entertaining game.
Patrick Howe, playing only his second game of the season was asked to open the batting and then proceeded to dominate the innings with an outstanding career best 92 not out off 104 balls hitting 13 boundaries and two sixes in the process.
During the Aycliffe innings, they were in trouble at 81 for 7, when Howe was joined at the crease by 13-year-old Trent Telford and the pair batted brilliantly to set a new 2nd team club partnership record for the 8th wicket of 94 to take their side to a respectable 175 for 8. Telford was eventually dismissed for 37 off 51 balls and his career best innings included five well struck boundaries.
After 17 games, the second team have 155 points and drop down a place to 8th in the fourth division table.
