Lee Weldon’s weekly round-up from the wicket…

Saturday 1st July – NYSD Division 2

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Shildon 1st XI – weather was warm and sunny. Newton Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Match Sponsored by J&C Coaches

Shildon 1st XI 163 all out after after 49.2 overs

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 165 for 6 after 30.4 overs
Chris Palmer 52 not out, Terence Smit 31 and Owen Smith 20 not out

Newton Aycliffe’s 1st team extended their unbeaten run to four games after defeating near neighbours Shildon 1st XI by four wickets.
Club stalwart Chris Palmer (sponsored by Vanila Design & Print) had an excellent game, firstly claiming two sharp wicket keeping victims in the Shildon innings, then when Aycliffe replied, he top scored with an unbeaten 52. His third half century of the season came off 75 balls and included eight boundaries and a six.
Acting captain James Layfield-Carroll (pictured bowling, above) also deserves praise after bowling a marathon 13 overs and finishing with seasonal best figures of four for 31.
Aycliffe picked up 20 points from their win against Shildon and have now accrued 130 points from 11 games played and move up a place to eighth in the NYSD 2nd division table.

Saturday 1st July – NYSD Division 4

Bedale 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI – weather was warm and sunny. Bedale won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 115 all out after 31.2 overs
Tom Dearden 35, Ramzan Hussain 26 and Will Dearden 12

Bedale 2nd XI 116 for 3 after 27.1 overs
Tom Dearden 2 for 42 and Jimmy Newton 1 for 29

Newton Aycliffe’s second team were brought back down to earth after their recent good performances when they were soundly beaten away at Bedale 2nd XI by seven wickets.
Sixteen-year-old Tom Dearden (sponsored by Kevin Burton) had a good all round game when he top scored with 35 off 56 balls in the Aycliffe innings and he then took two for 42 with the ball when the homeside replied.
The second team earned just three bonus points from their defeat at Bedale and they have now accrued 129 points from 13 games played and drop down to eighth place in the NYSD fourth division table.
