Aycliffe Citizens Unite!

January 23rd, 2012 Martin Walker Community, News 0 comments 0

In 2012 residents of Great Aycliffe will have the opportunity to help shape how our community develops in the next 20 years.

Important items on planning, schools, housing, shopping, environment etc will all be reviewed and our needs submitted to the County Council to formulate an overall County Plan.

The Town Council will lead a major consultation with as many people and groups as possible to assess public opinion on all aspects of life within our area. The object is to find what the people of Great Aycliffe want to see develop in our community over the next 20 years, and also what they don’t want.

What we specify, provided it does not contradict the overall County policy will be incorporated into the County Plan and provided it is backed by the local community, become the governing principles for the Great Aycliffe area.

A series of meetings and a referendum will be held to debate these important issues affecting the future progress of Great Aycliffe and the lives of all inhabitants. For our children’s sakes we must all share the responsibility of planning and securing the future of Great Aycliffe.

The Great Aycliffe Residents Association will hold its AGM in March and this topic will be on the agenda.

Details of the time and venue will be published later, but as the town faces this important review of its future under the Localism Bill it is vital we all stand behind the Town Council to determine the future of this area of South Durham.

In an effort to show a united front Great Aycliffe Residents’ Association invites neighbourhood Tenants Associations and Neighbourhood Watch groups and any other interested parties to partner them in agreeing the Great Aycliffe Plan with our Town Council.
Anyone who believes there is strength in numbers please contact Chairman Syd Howarth to talk about the way forward.
