Newton Aycliffe travel to Heaton Stannington on Saturday (September 20) in the second qualifying round of the Isuzu FA Trophy.
Aycliffe’s last three games came in three separate competitions, the Isuzu FA Trophy, the Durham County FA Frank Pattison Challenge Cup and finally the Northern Premier League East Division.
Two of these games were against the same opposition in Blyth Town.
September 6th
Newton Aycliffe 3-0 Blyth Town
Aycliffe were dominant in this home victory which saw them progress to the Second Round Qualifying of the Isuzu FA Trophy. Debutant Andrew Nelson made it 1-0 in just four minutes when he fired a cool shot past Blyth’s De Jesus. Nelson would get his brace in the 39th minute after Blyth Town’s defenders gave the skilled forward too many touches in the box as he once again scored with a composed finish. Goal of the game however came in the 77th when substitute Louis Burns rocked a powerful shot from outside the box that almost no keeper could have dealt with.
September 10th
Crook Town AFC 1-0 Newton Aycliffe
A poor game for the neutral on a drizzly night saw Crook Town knock Aycliffe out of the Durham Challenge Cup. It was a game where Crook’s man of the match was probably goalkeeper Ryan Johnson who made several tremendous saves towards the second half’s end. The one goal came when Nathan Stephenson fired a powerful shot into the top corner in the 69th minute. Aycliffe did graft hard in the final 20 minutes, but Crook managed to see the game out and equally still apply pressure to the Aycliffe defence on counterattacks.
September 13th
Newton Aycliffe 0-1 Blyth Town
Blyth Town’s Adam Johnson scored the only goal of this contest in the 47th minute which saw Blyth Town record their first league win of the season and avenged their defeat from a week earlier.
