Aycliffe Juniors round-up

January 15th, 2020 Martin Walker Sport 0 comments 0

By Donna Campbell

This week has been very quiet for the members of ARC.

As always we had many members supporting the local parkruns, despite the windy conditions, but there were no PB’s to record this week.

We also had plenty of members out training with several groups undertaking different distances and routes.

The only race in which we had members participate was the popular Brass Monkey Half Marathon down in York.

The route is flat and fast, looping southwards from the York Racecourse and the conditions were quite tough with rain and wind dampening the day.

First home (albeit running for Aycliffe Tri Club) was Trevor Dixon in 1.25.46, he was followed by Richard Holland in 1.36.53, Simon Mattahew Turner in 1.44.19, Kevin Wilson in 1.57.49, David Stothard in 2.08.16 and Ian Baronowski in 2.14.34.

Junior Section

On Tuesday December 17, the Junior Section held their annual presentation evening which celebrates the achievements of our young athletes.

The coaches are proud of each and every one of our athletes who train with us and it’s great to present so many achievement trophies.

Well done to our ‘Runner’s runner of the year’ awarded to Elijah Mcluckie, Connor Scaife and Megan Plews. Winners of the ‘Most Improved’ category were awarded to Mia Hynd, Charlotte Clay and Eva Ryan’s.

The ‘Best Effort’ trophies were awarded to Amelia Scaife, Millie Greathead and Zoe Hodgson. The winners of the ‘Attendance’ trophies were Rose Taylor, Alex Bowerbank and James Hodgson. Well done everyone.

For anyone interested in joining the club, you can simply turn up at one of our sessions all of which start from the Oakleaf Complex in Newton Aycliffe. Monday night is beginners run at 6.30pm, Tuesday is endurance/speed session from 7pm, and Thursday is a track session and this takes place at Shildon Track. Further details can be found on our website or facebook pages or alternatively you can message the club via facebook for more information.
