Youth football round-up

May 11th, 2016 Martin Walker Youth Football 0 comments 0

With many teams concluding their seasons in the last few weeks there was only a sprinkling of action for the Juniors this week.

The Development team (Under 6’s) played an entertaining draw with Darlington All Stars, the eleven goals scored were shared between Thomas (9), Alex and Lewis with Thomas and Lewis the men of the match.

The Under 8’s enjoyed two friendlies against Marton. They won 4-0 against the Whites with Connor, Rhys (2) and man of the match Niall scoring. Then in the second match a Niall hatrick and one from man of the match Rhys secured a 4-2 win over the Blues.

The Russell Foster Under 10’s team will continue their Spring Cup campaign throughout May and this week they faced Swalwell Swifts. They looked determined from the outset and the Swalwell defence had to block efforts from Noah and Evan early on. Matty came on from the bench and made an immediate impact as he finished well from a blocked Evan shot giving Aycliffe a 1-0 lead. Next Taylor made a good run, his shot being blocked but then finished by Matty, again for his and the teams second goal. Swalwell pulled one back before an Evan strike from distance opened up the two goal lead again. The game finished with the score 3-1 and Evan was both the players and parents man of the match.

The Under12’s played their last league game on Tuesday night against Aycliffe Youth. Despite a bright start they could not contain the Youth Centre team and went 5-0 down by half time. In the second half there was lots of improvement with Zack scoring twice in what ended up being an 8-2 defeat. The games man of the match was Adam who performed well in defence during the second half.

The Under 18’s Reds won 5-2 away at Redcar Athletic on Tuesday, Ryan Peart with all the goals and Lochie Scott the man of the match. They then finished their season on Thursday with a 4-1 loss away at Thirsk Falcons, Ryan Peart scored again but ended the campaign just behind the league’s leading scorers.

The Under 23’s will join the Russell Foster Under 10 team with games during May and this week they faced West Auckland at Sunnydale. A quality team effort ensured a 3-1 win in this closely fought game.
