Woodham students training to become anti-bullying ambassadors

May 4th, 2018 Martin Walker Community 0 comments 0

Students have trained to become anti-bullying ambassadors at Woodham Academy.

The group of Year 10 students attended a training event organised by the Diana Award charity.

The course, held at Whickham School and Sports College, taught students to engage others to change their attitudes and behaviour towards bullying.

They worked together as a team, and with other students from across the region, to learn to build confidence and skills in others, so they are able to address different situations.

The Woodham Academy students used the knowledge and experience they gained from the course to present a plan of action to the Diana Award organisers, which they would implement at Woodham Academy, making a difference to the school and community.

Elaine Kell, head of Learning for Y10, said: “Our students rose magnificently to the challenges they were set in a series of different workshops and showed great enthusiasm and confidence.

“I am extremely proud of the commitment and maturity they have shown in wanting to make a difference to others. What they have learned will be invaluable for the Woodham community.”

Over the coming weeks the student ambassadors will be planning a series of events to highlight issues surrounding bullying and their role in school.
