WOODHAM STUDENTS OFF TO CAMP!

July 5th, 2012 Martin Walker News 0 comments 0

Four lucky year 11 students from Woodham Community Technology College are off on the summer of a lifetime this weekend as they travel to Camp Cody in New Hampshire, USA, as part of the Coach USA programme at Woodham.

The students, who were selected from a strict application and interview process will work on the American summer camp for four weeks.

The group fly out to Boston on Sunday morning and will stay on the camp with the American children for a month.

Camp Cody is a traditional log cabin style American summer camp set in a stunning lakeside location.

The four students will help coach a multitude of sports including traditional American sports as well as a range of exciting water sports on the adjacent Lake Ossipee. The programme at Woodham is believed to be the only one of its kind in the UK for 16 year olds.

Jon Tait, assistant head teacher at Woodham and leader of the Camp Cody programme, said: “Our students will have an incredible four weeks in America.

“They have shown fantastic leadership in both school and the community giving them this fabulous opportunity.

“The life skills that they will develop whilst being away from their families will be invaluable to them in the future.”

The students will be recording a daily video diary from Camp Cody which can be viewed via the Woodham website www.woodham.org.uk
