WOODHAM GETS ACADEMY STATUS

July 7th, 2012 Martin Walker Community, News 0 comments 0

By Martin Walker

Woodham School in Newton Aycliffe has now officially earned Academy status.

The school, full name Woodham Community Technology College, will switch to Woodham Academy from September 1 this year.

Immediate obvious changes will include:

● A new logo

● New uniform – click here to see it

● A new name, Woodham Academy

But the school says some things will not change, such as the school’s commitment to achievement for all.

A school statement said: “Following consultation with students, parents, staff and the wider community, governors submitted an application to the Department for Education.

“This has been approved, recognising the fact that Woodham is a school which is performing well.

“In becoming an Academy, Woodham will receive additional funding from the Department for Education.

“This summer will see significant investment in digital technology, including Wi-Fi, iPads and an Apple Mac Suite.

“Woodham will also open the Woodham Sports Academy in September, providing coaching to elite athletes in a range of sports.”

Aycliffe Today will bring you more on this exciting development for Woodham College next week.
