As part of this year’s Future Business Magnates (FBM) project, Year 8 students at Woodham Academy have launched an innovative business idea designed to boost footfall in their local town.
Their concept, Crumb-ling Times, is a retro-themed café that serves traditional puddings from the 1960s to the 2000s.
The café offers a nostalgic experience, with desserts reflecting each decade and staff dressed in period clothing.
The idea was inspired by the popularity of old-fashioned puddings at local Christmas Fayres and Food Festivals.
Following a series of business development workshops, the students showcased Crumb-ling Times at Beamish Museum, presenting their products and promotional materials to members of the public.
Students were judged by a mystery shopper and by a representative of FBM. The comments made by all who spoke to the team were very positive.
Throughout the project, the team has benefited from the guidance of business advisor Thomas Prentice from Stiller, who provided expert support and helped source promotional materials through Newton Press. The school extends its sincere thanks to both for their generous support.
The students are now preparing for their final challenge – presenting Crumb-ling Times to a panel of FBM judges in June.
The winners of the competition will be revealed at a presentation lunch at Hardwick Hall later this month.
“Woodham Academy is incredibly proud of the team’s hard work and we wish them every success in the final round,” said the school.
