Woodham Academy Girls Active

November 18th, 2021 Martin Walker Community 0 comments 0

Woodham Academy have once again begun to offer their Sports Academy activities to all students.

An exciting aspect of this is Girls Active. Students take part in a range of activities, designed to encourage girls to become more active outside of school.

Miss Kent and Miss Woolley lead a variety of activities as part of the programme.

This includes fitness, trampolining, table tennis to name a few. During the sessions, girls come along to the activity, where they can be active and socialise with their peers. They have been able to do this across different year groups and have really developed their confidence and resilience.

At the end of last half term, students were given an exciting opportunity when they visited Tees Barrage International White Water Centre.

During their time at the centre, the students took part in 2 hours of Kayaking on the River Tees. Each student got their own kayak and learned a range of different paddling techniques. They played a lot of games and developed teamwork during challenges.

After the final paddle, students then finished the session by jumping into the water.

“All students had a fantastic time and have continued to attend,” said Miss Kewnt.

“This has also had a ripple effect, with the numbers of students attending Girls Active continuing to grow.

“The academy is looking forward to working with more and more students and planning more exciting activities!”
