Woodham Academy appoint new head boy and head girl

October 10th, 2019 Martin Walker Community 0 comments 0

Woodham Academy are very proud to have appointed Sonny Fielding and Hannah Cox as head boy and head girl for the current academic year.

Although the academy has always valued the role of students in leading the school and helping drive Woodham forward, this is the first time these actual posts have been introduced.

The appointment follows a rigorous process where students had to apply in writing and outline their credentials for the position as well as their vision for the role.

The candidates were then interviewed by a formal panel which included head teacher Andrew Bell, and chair of governors Sean Barnett.

The panel was unanimous in its praise for the quality and maturity of all the candidates on display.

Mr Bell said: “I am delighted that in my first year as headteacher of Woodham Academy, I am able to count on the support of Sonny and Hannah and their team as we work together to maintain the excellent progress Woodham Academy has made in recent years.

“I believe this appointment shows the unity between the staff and student body we are fortunate to have here and reflects the calibre and leadership skills of the students we produce.

“The way all the students approached their interview was exceptional and it was a delight to see first-hand the confidence and intelligence they brought to such a challenging experience.”

Sonny and Hannah will be supported in their role by Adam Lenahan and Sydney Etherington as deputy head boy and deputy head girl respectively, as well as Angel Woods who will be lead ambassador for the various academies within Woodham, including sports, leadership and performing arts.

Collectively, they will lead the team of Y11 student ambassadors who help staff run clubs and activities and offer support to younger students at the school.

All new appointments began their official duties last week when they addressed a large number of future parents and students at the recent Year 6 open evening.

Here they outlined, from a student’s perspective, all the opportunities that Woodham Academy offers.
