Woodham Academy’s very own ‘Magnificent Seven’ have helped the school achieve its best-ever GCSE results.
Seven students – Jasmeen Vasey, James Knowlson, Matthew Beddard, Josef Bedford, Lisa Robinson, Josh Blackburn and Aimee Laycock – achieved A and A* grades in eight or more subjects, despite the introduction of tougher exams this year.
Overall, the school recorded the best results in its history, with students of all abilities making excellent progress at Woodham.
Head teacher Christine Forsyth said: “The exceptional results achieved by all seven outstanding students mean that they are in a position to go on to study at top universities and achieve even greater things. Their results are due to their hard work and are thoroughly deserved.
“Students of all abilities have made excellent progress during their time at Woodham Academy and everyone should feel very proud of this year’s results, which are the best ever at our school.”
The proportion of students who passed both of the key subjects of Maths and English rose 22% on last year. The pass rate at Woodham for both subjects is now above 70%.
Overall, the proportion of students achieving a ‘good’ pass is well above the average for the county. Progress made at Woodham by students of all abilities is well above the national average.
Mrs Forsyth added: “Woodham Academy would like to congratulate students on their outstanding achievement.
“Despite the introduction of tougher exams this year, the school has achieved its best ever results whilst maintaining its commitment to a broad and balanced curriculum.
“We are proud of this year’s fantastic results, which can be attributed to the hard work of both the students and their teachers.”
