great aycliffe show

The final Great Aycliffe Show is set to be held this weekend, on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th August during the Bank Holiday weekend.

There is a wide variety of professional and amateur entertainment in the main arena, including the spectacular motorcycle stunts of Jason Smyth’s Adrenaline Tour, plus  Big and Little and a marching pipe band.

The North East’s Strongest Man Competition will also be held in a separate arena.

The Adrenaline Tour is a Quad and Motorcycle Stunt show, starring Jason Smyth, one of the UK’s leading quad bike and motorbike stunt riders, with many years of experience in top level Motocross.

The motorcycle stunt show includes everything from motorbike stunts with wheelies and stoppies to quad stunts which include hair raising quad freestyle jumps 30ft in the air.

Big and Little are the equine world’s answer to Little and Large – Magpie and Billy -bring sparkle and razzmatazz to any event with their hilarious liberty display that has both children and adults alike in stitches.

The infamous double-act perform a plethora of entertaining tricks from sitting down to bowing and they have been delighting audiences with their irresistible cheek and charm up and down the Country.

The North East Strongest Man competition will test the strength of athletes who will be asked to complete several tasks including Log Lift and Yoke and Van Lift and Hold as well as the Axle Deadlift.  Participation is restricted to the performers, members of the public are not expected to participate!

Did you know that we have fairies and boggles in Aycliffe?  They have found something in Aycliffe that they like and would like to show you what it is, in the main arena on Sunday 24th August.

There will be a Quercus Live marquee on the showfield on both days of the show where you can help by adding your own artistic flair and help put the magic into a finale of an enchanting experience of dance, music and drama in the main arena.  Great Aycliffe and Middridge Partnership are sponsors of Quercus Live.

The Handcraft & Horticulture Exhibition has 118 classes which cover everything from cookery, sewing and knitting to photography and art.  It also has horticulture classes for vegetables and flowers with a main prize for the best leeks.  We are expecting around 800 entries to this competition.

This is sponsored by Deco Trophies and Engraving and Gregg Little Testing Centre.

The Junior Football Tournament attracts teams from all over the North East of England.  It is organised by Newton Aycliffe Youth Centre Football Club.

The Fur and Feather marquee houses the pigeon, poultry and rabbit entries on Sunday.  There are over 300 poultry entries, 200 pigeons and lots of prize rabbits to see.

The craft marquee has demonstrations of local crafts, some of which you can purchase.  There are eleven stands demonstrating how to create patchwork, painted rocks, quilling, cards, crochet, jewellery and a host of other crafty things.

New for 2014 is the ‘Community Information’ marquee on Saturday.  There are sixteen local organisations which are there to help you, offer services and information.

There is a range of activities on site, some of which are free, Punch and Judy with free face painting as well as a bungee run and maze which will also be free.

There are 33 stands and stalls outside, some will be offering items for sale, others will be promoting goods or services or raising funds for their organisations.

There will also be our ‘regulars’, the Territorial Army, Police and Fire Service and vintage vehicles, Fairground, on site catering and a host of others will also be attending.

For further information contact Marie Robinson, Show Co-ordinator, tel 01325 300700.  A press pass for free parking is attached.
