Newton Aycliffe Neighbourhood Police Team Sergeant Mark Edwards continues his regular blog on Aycliffe Today…

Well hello again. If it seems like forever since my last blog that’s because it has been (or at least it feels that).

This ‘edition’ is a little different to my usual style, mainly because I’m actually on my leave away from work!

However, I wanted to fill the void for those anxious to catch up on my latest installment!

So, what can I tell you about?

There’s been more change to the make-up of the neighbourhood team at Aycliffe.

Unfortunately, the reality of the world of policing means nothing stays the same indefinitely.

We have now said goodbye to our West Ward PCSO Nicola Shaw who has taken on a new role within the Police Control Room.

Nicola wasn’t with the team long but made an impact with her style of community engagement and will be a sad loss. I do however wish her all the best in her new role.

On the subject of change, Greenfields has seen some revisions to the local PACT process.

The date has now changed which means it no longer follows the Horndale Residents meeting that has until these changes preceded it.

This decision will no doubt cause some dissatisfaction to what is normally a lively event, but the decision to change and separate the two forums was not taken lightly.

Mike Welch and Mike Hutchinson continue to support the Ward and represent the local Policing Team and will continue to address any concerns you may have.

You may have heard of #respectyourstreet?

This is the Durham Constabulary campaign that has recently been launched to address the impact of criminal damage.

Damage makes up a significant amount of crime county wide (not just in Aycliffe), however it’s crime like burglary and vehicle crime that the average person tends to think of as serious crime.

There are various strands to the campaign and the initial response involves taking an educational approach.

The official launch took place in Stanley and I had the privilege of been present (outside of my regular role I am involved in looking at the Force-wide strategy at addressing damage offences, multi-tasking and all that!).

Anyhow you can check out the hashtag #respectyourstreet to get a flavour of what all this is about.

And, on that note, several members of the team at Aycliffe have Twitter accounts.

You must know of @Aycliffe_FiveO (hint, its me!) and our team page @AycliffeNPT.

Now PCSO Mike Hutchinson is up and running and very active!

If you care about Aycliffe and what the local neighbourhood team and our colleagues are up to then check us out!

A bit lengthy blog this time but hopefully I’ve wetted your appetites…

And more court results will accompany my next blog… I promise!

Until then, be good.
