SWAP FAGS FOR SWAG IN AYCLIFFE

March 9th, 2013 Martin Walker Community, What's ON 0 comments 0

Swap Fags for Swag – that’s the message this No Smoking Day.

Smokers are being encouraged to kick the habit on Wednesday (13th March) by thinking about the money they will save as well as the health benefits.

And people in County Durham can find out more about the help and support available to stop smoking at a No Smoking Day drop-in being held in Newton Aycliffe.

The session, organised by County Durham and Darlington NHS Stop Smoking Service and Durham County Council, will take place at Nana’s Café on Aycliffe Business Park, between noon and 1pm.

The Swap Fags for Swag theme aims to highlight how much money people can save by giving up smoking.

Someone who smokes 20-a-day and pays £7 per pack of cigarettes, for example, could save £49 in just one week, enough for a family trip to the cinema or a meal for two.

Over the course of six months, they could save up to £1,260 and over one year, as much as £2,555 enough money for the holiday of a lifetime.

The County Durham and Darlington NHS Stop Smoking Service has helped more than 50,000 people kick the habit, providing advice, support and encouragement.

Dianne Woodall, County Durham and Darlington NHS Public Health Portfolio Holder, said: “You can gain so much by stopping smoking, not only becoming healthier but wealthier too.

“Smokers are four times more likely to quit if they get the right support and the stop smoking service here in County Durham can offer that help.”

As well as one-to-one help, the service offers group and drop-in sessions in community centres, libraries, pharmacies, GP surgeries, health clinics and many other venues.

For more information on how the service can help you call 0800 0113 405.
