Stabbing trial date set for ‘Spike’ Watson

A Newton Aycliffe man will go on trial later this year in relation to a street stabbing in the town last month.

Michael Watson, known locally as “Spike”, appeared at Durham Crown Court via video link from Holme House prison, when a trial date of 27th October was set.

The 48-year-old, who has been remanded in custody since he was charged, is accused of wounding with intent, possession of a bladed article and possession of Cannabis.

He was again remanded in custody, and is due to appear again for a case management hearing on 23rd September before his scheduled trial a month later.

Watson was arrested after a 32-year-old local man suffered serious injuries during an incident near Reeth Place in Aycliffe at 6.30pm on Friday 12th June.
