Six wins out of seven for in-form Aycliffe

June 19th, 2018 Martin Walker Cricket 0 comments 0

A round-up of the weekend’s cricket action…

Saturday 16th June – NYSD Division 2

Northallerton 1st XI v Newton Aycliffe 1st XI – weather was cloudy and cool. Northallerton won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Newton Aycliffe 1st XI 133 all out after 44.3 overs
Sam Telford 51, Adam Gittins 20 and Chris Palmer 16

Northallerton 1st XI 69 all out after 36 overs
Michael Howe 5 for 27, Patrick Howe 2 for 1 and Jack Slatcher 2 for 30

Aycliffe first team won their sixth game out of their last seven when they came out on top away at Northallerton 1sts by 64 runs. Michael Howe (sponsored by Yvonne & Bob Wood) continued his excellent run of form with the ball and was named joint man of the match after taking 5 for 27, his best bowling figures since 2014. Sam Telford (sponsored by Neil & Kim Telford) was also given the joint man of the match after hitting an excellent half century, finishing with 51 off 60 balls and his innings included nine boundaries.
The win keeps Aycliffe right up in the promotion dog fight in third place in the 2nd division table, but they have a tough couple of games in the next two weeks, which will be made even more difficult due to the unavailability of key players during this short period.

Saturday 16th June – NYSD Division 4

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI v Preston 1st XI – weather was cloudy and cool. Aycliffe won the toss and chose to bat first.

Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI 93 for 5 after 28.4 overs
Ryan Patrick 24 not out, Neil Bancroft 22 and Dan Weldon 17 not out

Aycliffe’s game at home to Preston was abandoned as a draw at 4.15pm after a thunderstorm brought heavy rain which flooded the ground and made any further play impossible. In the play that did go ahead, Ryan Patick (sponsored by A* Bathrooms) was given the man of the match award for top scoring with an unbeaten 24 from 46 balls.

This week’s senior cricket fixtures:
Saturday 23rd June at 1.00pm – NYSD Division 2 – Newton Aycliffe 1st XI v Barnard Castle 2nd XI
Saturday 23rd June at 1.30pm – NYSD Division 4 – Billingham Synthonia 2nd XI v Newton Aycliffe 2nd XI
