SCIENCE FESTIVAL IS A REAL BRAINWAVE!

June 13th, 2012 Martin Walker News 0 comments 0

The hugely-popular three-day science festival which brings the latest eye-popping technology and innovation to County Durham’s youngsters is back this summer and billed as the best ever.

Brainwave will run from Friday 13th July until Sunday 15th July at North East Technology Park (NETPark) in Sedgefield.

Amongst the Brainwave festival highlights for 2012 is Dr Bunhead, aka Tom Pringle. The UK ‘s most successful ‘stand-up scientist’ Bunhead is billed as the man who turns the science curriculum into a burning, bubbling, exploding ball of fun.

In fact the free festival, organised by Durham County Council’s business arm – Business Durham – is now so popular that the school day tickets instantly disappeared. However, don’t be disappointed.

There are two public days (July 14 and 15) and both promise to be brim full of everything from breathtaking spells and illusions to hands on and even ears on experiments.

Cabinet member for children and young people’s services, Cllr Claire Vasey, said: “This is one of my favourite events – an unmissable opportunity for our younger residents to get up close and personal with a dramatic array of eye- watering experiments and jaw-dropping displays.

“Science at its most enchanting and all free. Come along and help us make this the best Brainwave ever.”

Cabinet member for regeneration and economic development Cllr Neil Foster, said: “Brainwave provides a phenomenal platform to get our youngest residents animated about careers in science and technology and NETPark is the perfect backdrop.

“As a local authority we are committed to attracting, retaining and nurturing cutting edge technologies. We want our residents to get a flavour of what the world can offer and Brainwave is simply genius.”

Alasdair Wilson, chair of the Institute of Physics North East Branch, said: “We are delighted to support this event because it presents a wonderful opportunity for children and their families to take part in some fabulous hands-on activities and see physics in action.”

More details of the final line up will be released over the coming weeks but you can keep up to date via the website www.haveabrainwave.com or follow us on Twitter @haveabrainwave
