Rookie cops complete training online during Covid-19 pandemic

April 8th, 2020 Martin Walker News 0 comments 0

Rookie cops have been completing some of their training online during the coronavirus pandemic.

The latest 24-strong cohort have been completing their final sessions from home in recent weeks and using technology to keep in touch with trainers.

The group will finish on April 24 before hitting the streets in their designated areas on May 4.

PCs Abbie Wallace and Thomas James were snapped by trainer PC Jeffrey Summerhill this week (above).

The next cohorts of 20 PCSOs and 24 PCs are due to arrive at our training centre, in Meadowfield, on April 20 and April 27.

The recruits will be split into smaller groups so social distancing measures can be adhered to.

Police skills trainer, Brian Maudling, said: “Our new recruits will be a great addition to our team and we are really looking forward to having them embark on their new careers as PCs.

“It will definitely be an unusual situation for them to begin in such unprecedented times but as always, our officers are ready to adapt and take on new challenges to keep the communities they serve safe.”
