Recycling centres to move to winter opening hours next week

September 23rd, 2015 Martin Walker Community 0 comments 0

Winter opening hours are due to come into effect at County Durham’s household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) from next week.

Durham County Council is advising residents to check opening times at their local sites – including Newton Aycliffe’s – before visiting.

The winter opening hours will be in place from 1st October until 31st March 2016.

The Heighington Lane site on Aycliffe Business Park will be open seven days a week between 9am and 3.30pm.

All HWRCs will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Cllr Brian Stephens, Cabinet member for neighbourhoods and local partnerships, Durham County Council, said: “Household waste recycling centres are an extension of household recycling facilities and provide the perfect solution to dispose of larger items free of charge.

“Everyone has a personal responsibility in ensuring they manage their waste legally and these centres can help you do that.”

Waste produced by businesses (commercial waste) is not accepted at household waste recycling centres.

Business waste must be disposed of legally at an appropriate licensed facility or by arranging a commercial waste collection.

For more information on business waste collections visit www.durham.gov.uk/commercialwaste or call 03000 262 660.

People can find details of their nearest site and the opening hours at www.durham.gov.uk/hwrc or by calling 03000 261 000.
